My Stuff
Bags Foundation Elects Michael Reagan to its Board of Directors
Westlake Village, Ca. – April
2008 – My Stuff Bags Foundation, a national nonprofit
organization that provides individual duffel bags filled with new
belongings to abused, neglected and abandoned children entering
foster care without possessions, today announced that six new
members, including Michael Reagan, have been elected to its Board of
Directors. Other new board appointees include: Suzanne Carroll,
Community Volunteer; Bob Holmes, Consultant, Nutritional Products;
Bob Lennon, Administrative Director, Scripps Memorial Hospital; Jeff
Lennon, CEO, Event Masters International, Inc.; and Bob Neill,
Actor.
Michael Reagan, talk show host, author, popular speaker, and eldest
son of President Ronald Reagan and Oscar winning actress Jane Wyman,
has long been a strong advocate for children in foster care and the
crises they have to endure, having been an abuse survivor himself.
“There is no greater mission of service in America today than
rescuing these children from the cycle of abuse and neglect they’ve
been trapped inside,” says Michael. “It is imperative we lift these
kids up and show them people care.” Michael’s latest book, Twice
Adopted , is a testimony of healing from the issues
confronting so many of America’s children today, such as child
abuse, loneliness and feelings of rejection.
“We are very pleased to welcome Michael Reagan and five other
outstanding child advocates to our board,” says Janeen Holmes,
president and CEO of My Stuff Bags. “The passion and experience that
they will bring to our organization is invaluable.”
In addition to being elected to the foundation’s Board of Directors,
Michael Reagan has also been named national spokesperson for the My
Stuff Bags Foundation. He will officially begin that post during the
foundation’s National Foster Care Month campaign this May. National
Foster Care Month was established to bring about awareness of the
plight of the more than 500,000 children in foster care in America.
My Stuff Bags was launched in 1998 to address some of the immediate
physical and emotional
needs of children who must be rescued from abuse, neglect and drug
infested homes. Traumatized by the events leading to their rescue,
these children often enter foster care with no belongings. Each
individual My Stuff duffel bag is filled with new items, giving
children comfort and hope and letting them know that lots of people
care about them. To date, the nonprofit has donated more than
325,000 bags to children in over 1,100 organizations in 49 states. A
national grass roots effort, the program is supported by thousands
of individuals, schools, churches and synagogues, children’s groups,
as well as foundations, manufacturers and corporations.
