Bags Launches National Mend A Broken Heart Month
Westlake Village, Calif. – January 28, 2008 – My
Stuff Bags Foundation (www.mystuffbags.org), a nonprofit
organization which provides individual duffel bags filled with new
belongings to rescued abused, neglected, and abandoned children
entering shelters without possessions is sponsoring the first annual
National Mend a Broken Heart Month in February. The
foundation is asking groups and individuals to serve foster children
and other American children in crisis by raising awareness, donating
toys and other items and volunteering through local organizations.
“With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, most people are
trying to find the perfect way to celebrate the love in their
lives,” says Janeen Holmes, president and CEO of My Stuff Bags.
“Unfortunately, at the same time there are thousands of children
being abused and neglected by the very people who should love them
most. During National Mend A Broken Heart Month, we encourage
everyone to show that special someone how much they care by making a
donation in a loved one’s name to a broken-hearted child.” Holmes
added that there are children’s shelters and groups in most cities
throughout the country that would appreciate donations.
My Stuff Bags was launched in 1998 to address some of the immediate
physical and emotional needs of children who must be rescued from
terrible environments. Traumatized by the events leading to their
rescue, these children often enter shelters with virtually no
belongings. Each individual My Stuff duffel bag is filled with new
items: toys, toiletries, a stuffed animal, clothing and a blanket,
often handmade. To date, the nonprofit has donated more than 325,000
bags to children in over 1,100 organizations in 49 states. A
national grass roots effort, the program is supported by thousands
of individuals, schools, churches and synagogues, children’s groups,
as well as foundations, manufacturers and corporations.
